How much do I need to save each month?
Take the amount left to reach your goal and divide by the number of months you have. For example, £8,000 left over 24 months is about £333 a month. Any interest you earn reduces that a little.
Does the interest rate make a big difference?
Over short periods, not much — most of your progress comes from what you pay in. Over several years, compound interest starts to add up meaningfully.
Is my savings interest taxed?
It can be, above your Personal Savings Allowance (£1,000 for basic-rate taxpayers, £500 for higher-rate). Most people saving modest amounts won't pay tax on it, but it's worth checking.
